Saw two movies in the theater yesterday, after not seeing any since...Star Trek? Possibly? Anyway, first we saw Avatar on IMAX 3D. The movie has been somewhat over-promoted, which can be annoying, but at the same time, I have to say - GO SEE THIS MOVIE, ON IMAX 3D IF YOU CAN!! It is worth the money and just will not be the same on DVD.

The movie was absolutely amazing. It really does live up to the hype of being a totally new "movie watching experience" because it really felt like an experience, not just a movie. I really loved the surround sound of the IMAX, it seriously felt like you were in the action. The 3D helped with that also, it was used VERY effectively in my opinion, and not gimmicky. Absolutely gorgeous and I ended up really liking all of the characters that were supposed to be likable. Plus, it made me feel emotions. I think Dan was a little heartbroken at the end of the movie because he is not a 10-foot tall blue creature and because Pandora doesn't exist. I think we may go see the movie again next weekend if we can get tix to the IMAX 3D again.

Then we spent a few hours at home and later decided to go out late (10:45) and see Sherlock Holmes (thus getting out of the way all of my requisite movie theater watching until March). Sherlock Holmes was good, but we were definitely spoiled by having seen Avatar that same day. Sorry, but they just do not compare, and Sherlock Holmes will translate better to DVD. That said, it's definitely worth watching and was very enjoyable. RDJ was absolutely wonderful as Holmes, and Rachel McAdams was great (Jude Law was good too, but the mustache reduces the hotness and so he was just okay). Dan's comment after the movie was that "there wasn't enough drunken boxing" ha ha! OH! Also - my favorite scene from the trailer - where Holmes and Watson are poking each other and Rachel McAdams says something like "will you two stop flirting?" - WASN'T IN THE MOVIE!!!! WTF?!?! I am sad.

Now we're watching Star Trek: The Next Generation, and it's the episode where Data is playing Holmes and Geordi is Watson! Awesome.

Oh man, I just saw a super long trailer for Sherlock Holmes (and if you didn't see it, well, that just goes to show you should have been watching the Phillies game). It looks awwwwwesome!!! Robert Downey Jr, Jude Law, Rachel McAdams!!!!! This is a serious fandom waiting to happen (I mean for the movie - I know a Sherlock Holmes fandom exists - and has existed since the 19th Century, I think?) Anyway, there was part in the trailer where Holmes is poking Watson or something, and Rachel McAdams says "They've been flirting like this for hours." I literally clapped my hands. LITERALLY!

Anyway, I can't wait to see this movie (I think it comes out Christmas Day?) Which is great, because as far as I know the only other movie I'm excited about comes out in March 2010 (Alice in Wonderland).
