BRB WATCHING STAR TREK XI! WHEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!

Taking [livejournal.com profile] verizonhorizon's advice to update here with my random hilarious insightful okay mostly just random thoughts.

- Kirk's face when McCoy is getting him on the shuttle is really hilarious. I never noticed that before.

- Pike is hot. I did notice that before but it's worth mentioning.

- I don't think it's the normal viewer reaction, when the Enterprise comes out of warp into the battle with the Narada, to think "OMG, there is so much love in this movie." But what can I say, there's Kirk and Spock and everyone's working together and it's just like...LOVE!

- Engineer Olsen is dumb.

- Spock looks pretty fuckin' relaxed in that Captain's chair.

- Okay, this has always bothered me - why does Spock squat down on the transporter pad? don't get me wrong, i love it, it looks totally hot and badass, but I always assumed that it was so he could, like, take off running the moment he was on the planet's surface. But then when he gets there, he just stands up, looks around, and THEN runs. so, i'm just saying...what was the point?

- i still kind of love spock/uhura. also, they were totally doing it at the Academy. i mean, they were at least making out. I loved how in the shuttle bay Spock looks around all guiltily before he assigns Uhura to the Enterprise.

- hey nero, did it happen?

- "Permission to speak freely?" "I welcome it." No, actually, I don't think you do, Spock, stop lying. Also, I was bummed to learn that "Are you out of your Vulcan mind" was a line used in...I think it was Wrath of Khan? and wasn't specifically written for this movie. Although, I do give major props to the TOS writers for that one.

- I want Spock Prime's jacket. But not to live on an ice planet. Leonard Nimoy's nostrils are epic. I claim them.

- "also my mother was human, which makes earth the only home i have left" - i watched that line extra carefully because i just saw an interview where they were saying that they were all cracking up / breaking down so hard that they actually had to take a break in order to get that scene right. would have loved to be a fly on that wall...

- I SEE YOU ROMULAN JOE QUINTO! I HEAR YOU WIL WHEATON!

- SPOCK, IT'LL VERK.
TELL LIEUTENANT UHURA THAT I LOVE HER VAGEEN.
VAGEEN? JESUS.
or at least, that is how the scene goes in my head.

- Before the movie is over, I just want to take this time to make one of my favorite observations about this movie, which is just that in addition to being so badass, everyone on the Enterprise is freaking amazingly good at their jobs and at handling emergency situations, and here is the reason that Kirk is/will be an amazing captain - because he just automatically cares so much about his crew. When he screams "Sulu" and jumps off the drill to save him? I don't know if he knew Sulu before that, but if he didn't, that's some pretty hardcore loyalty right there. And then he knows everyone's name, like Chekov's on the bridge, and then he's all "I won't allow you to do that Mr. Spock." Plus he has swagger and a massive cock. Sigh. I love Kirk.

- you can totally tell that ZQ's fingers are glued together in the scene with Spock Prime, because his fingers are too relaxed. come on, Zach - ACTING!

- Sadness, movie is over, I must collapse into bed immediately. LL&P.

Yes he does. I've always thought that.
I think he'd make a decent captain. Except the majority of his crew probably wouldn't 'get' him.

they were totally doing it at the Academy.

I think their romance is pretty hot, too. I mean, I don't really ship them, but UNF. STUDENT TEACHER GETS ME EVERYTIME I DONT CARE HOW BAD THAT MAKES ME.

i agree completely re: student/teacher. This fic (http://therumjournals.livejournal.com/4609.html) was my attempt to combine student/teacher hotness + Kirk/Spock love :-)

Pike is totally a silver fox!

This calls for my Captain Spock icon. Him. That chair. Yes plz. That is my second favorite scene in the movie. Just him being there. I'm so easy to please sometimes.

Spock poppin a squat on the pad ridic. Agreed.

I love the scene with Spock claiming he wants to hear McCoy's opinion. Hah.

Yes, I also read that they flubbed that scene so much that j.J., who never freaks out, actually just LEFT the set for a bit until they calmed down b/c he just couldn't take them being so silly. ZQ said something about how he thought that line was kinda ridiculous and silly. But IDK, someone had to say it! Or I guess it was just implied.... *shrugs*

Yeah, that bit gave me pause, too. My best guess: they know at this point that the planet is very unstable, so in case the land Spock is beamed onto is quaking, he won't immediately fall over. Trivial, yes, but I don't imagine Vulcans relish the idea of doing a faceplant into the ground right in front of the Elders.

From: [identity profile] therumjournals.livejournal.com
ha ha, okay, that works. that's the best explanation i've heard so far, at least!

From: [identity profile] gryffin-draco.livejournal.com
My friends and I actually had a debate about why Spock kneels when beaming down to the planet. The consensus we reached (after loud, voracious argument) was to provide better stability and allow him a moment to adjust his balance and center himself on the uneven and fluctuating ground of the planet as it is destabilizing and changing gravity factors.

<.< We are geeks.

I need to watch this again!!

"Are you out of your Vulcan mind?" Probably one of my favorite McCoy lines. :)

And I'm with the above about Spock crouching on the transporter pad. I found it strange but figured it must have something to do with the instability of Vulcan. Mind you, I have a way of rationalizing all the anomalies that I see in films I like. :p

Kirk's face when McCoy is getting him on the shuttle is really hilarious

My friend & I call that Jim's cross-eyed fart face.

Pike is hot

HELL YES.

why does Spock squat down on the transporter pad?

That used to really bother me too, but after watching it a million times I've decided it's just for better stabilization because he's not sure what the ground will be like on Vulcan at that point... maybe?

And during the "also my mother was human" bit, if you look closely you can see ZQ's lips quirking up at the edges. I still can't believe that was the best take, because it's so obvious that he's nearly cracking.. lol

Date: 2010-04-12 11:18 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] therumjournals.livejournal.com
yeah, and now I'm going to crack up every time I watch that scene...which will not make sense to the people around me, let's put it that way. ....not that there are usually people around me when I'm watching this movie, but whatever.

pike_mccoy has got some good stuff if you like that pairing :D

(Btw, soz for shameless pimping!)

This is hilarious, just sat back and watched the movie AGAIN, and every time McCoy's on, brain kinda just shuts down ... *drooooool*

Engineer Olsen is dumb.

Word.

Leonard Nimoy's nostrils are epic. I claim them.

I think I hurt my self laughing at that. Also I agree about the jacket.

Wil Wheaton? WHAT? HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS *Grabby Hands*

Your note about Kirk jumping off the drill is totally my basis for loving Kirk/Sulu so hard as a pairing. That immediate blind loyalty and instinct to go after him. *dreamy sigh*

Date: 2010-04-12 11:29 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] therumjournals.livejournal.com
yeah, but you know kirk would do that for anyone. but i can definitely see how something like that could bring two people together. for the sex.

Engineer Olsen is dumb.
Now THAT is the thought of the day.

Also, "Hey, Nero, did it happen?"
I totally said that! Well, sort of. I was watching it with some non-Trek friends and we ended up just getting wasted and taking the piss out of the film the whole way through (lovingly, of course), and my reaction to that scene was "Sooo... Did it happen?" Ah, great minds...

Actually going to sit and watch it AGAIN today, with icecream and sunshine - summer blockbuster feel woo!

essays? what is this heresy?? There are no such thing as essays when there is Star Trek to be watched!

Oh man, I need a rewatch soon! Maybe after work today.

PIKE. Yes. I think my life needs moar Pike smut.

you can totally tell that ZQ's fingers are glued together in the scene with Spock Prime, because his fingers are too relaxed. come on, Zach - ACTING!

So is it generally accepted that the Vulcan salute is a hard thing to do? Is it like rolling your tongue (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tongue#Tongue_rolling)? My husband's best friend is a hardcore trekkie who watched the original run of TOS and still laments the fact that he can't do it properly decades later. *is doing it right now under her desk*

I have no idea, I've been able to do it fairly easily with both hands for a long time now, but that's mostly due to the fact that my brother and I practised when we were little by holding our fingers in that position xD

*high fives on the Vulcan salute moment!*

From: [identity profile] therumjournals.livejournal.com
i don't know. i just thought everyone could do it. i heard ZQ was practicing and everything (see icon). but then he got nervous that he wouldn't be able to do it or something. aww, poor nervous zach!

It is learnable :D

But ZQ is left-handed. I am right-handed and can“t do it with my left hand.

These random thoughts were amazing! :)

"I SEE YOU ROMULAN JOE QUINTO!" - He is the only aspect of the scene I notice... He steals the spotlight! :D

"you can totally tell that ZQ's fingers are glued together in the scene with Spock Prime, because his fingers are too relaxed. come on, Zach - ACTING!" - I point that out to everyone :D

I NOTICED HIS FACE THE FIRST TIME LOL. It was all I was watching. It was only later that I got distracted by KU's lips.

Spock squatting does look pretty badass once he's beamed onto Vulcan.

Spock/Uhura were totes getting it on in the academy. It's why he looks around and is like UHHH NO FAVORITISM?

I can't see the vageen scene any other way.

Omg I love Kirk so much. HE IS SO LOYAL AND LOVELY AND BADASS.
