So, my husband doesn't really know that I read fanfic, but he's always online playing games and stuff so we both chill on our computers and he never snoops or really asks what I'm doing (and if he does i just say i'm reading blogs, which is sometimes true).

Secondly, my brother does a lot of music blogging and writes articles for a bunch of blogs and always sends them to me, so I've always kind of wished I could share some of my (cleaner) writing with him to show off, because I know he'd be impressed, but then I was embarrassed that it was fanfic, so I figured maybe someday I would tell him when I was drunk.

So tonight my brother was over and we were playing Quizzo at the bar downstairs, and when we came back up my husband went to bed and my brother wanted to play some music for me on my computer, but I had like 10 tabs of fic open and I didn't want him to see them (because he totally would try to see what they were). So I basically told him, hold on, let me open a new window, and he was like "what don't you want me to see?" and I was like "stuff" and he was like "is it porn?" and i was like "no" (pardon my valley girl style of dialogue recounting here, but it's the easiest way), and then he said "is it star trek fanfiction" and i was like "yes." and he was like "no it's not" and i was like "yes, actually, it is" and he was like "woohoo, i guessed it!" then he was like "don't worry, my old roommate [a guy] used to read Halo fanfiction". So...I guess I got caught, but my brother is awesome but I'm not sure he really knows what's involved in fanfiction (the kind i read, at least - i mean, i'm sure he would surmise that there is gay sex involved, but the ridiculous amounts of porn, probably not so much). So, yeah. I didn't tell him that I write any, but I guess that door is now open. Guess we'll see how it goes from here, but as I said, my brother rocks and I kinda wanted to tell him anyway, so I guess it's all good.

If anyone were going to discover my fanfiction, I'd so want it to be my brother, too! He's awesome. Yay for great brothers! And my brother actually likes Star Trek. He would in no way be surprised to find out I write fanfic. (I've actually mentioned that I read fanfic to my mom and some friends. No one bats an eye. I've established myself as having 'good taste', so I'm not embarrassed.) And yet! My brother would be very surprised to find it's not all pg or pg-13. But the problem there is, in for a nickle in for a dollar, because of the powers of google. If I show him one, he'll find them all. But still. Yeah, I'd pick him to be 'in the know'!

definitely yay for awesome brothers. the worst would be if my brother found out my LJ name. i would definitely want to share some of my writing with him but yeah, i'm worried he would think to google it and find the rest. he's smart like that. so, maybe i really will wait til i'm drunk to go there... :-)

Yeah, sometimes I regret not having two names, one for gen and pg-slash, and one for other, but after 5 months it's already too late. Plus, later, I'd just wind up telling all my k/s community friends my 'clean' screenname, so it'd all still be linkable back to me through google. l'sigh! I guess I just won't share it with the bro anytime soon.

Your brother is cool, and it sounds like you're fine. If you're worried about him finding your LJ, though, it's easy enough to lock entries that have identifying info.

My little sister found out but she's in college and has turned into a slasher herself (this is the geeky sister). The worst thing that has come of it is that she wants me to appreciate her favorite EPIC DRAMA OF TRUE LOVE that is kinda awful.

i'm not worried about him finding me randomly, just thinking that if i showed him one of my fics he could google it and find where i posted it or something.

that's great and pretty funny about your sister :-) i sometimes consider introducing other RL friends to the wonders of fanfic but at the same time that feels like I would be exposing something about me that i'm not sure i want to share.
