Trekspiration / Trek Recs
Oct. 15th, 2009 07:09 pmI'm currently working on another ST fic that I'm having a lot of fun with, but it might be a little while longer until I can finish and post it. So in the meantime, I figured I would post a couple recs here.
These are actually more than recs. I call them my "trekspiration" because they are the fics that really set up how I view the characters/relationships and the way I write them. I consider them a kind of fanon interpretation of personalities/interactions/etc. I think everyone might already know about all of these - if so, you know what I'm talking about. If not, go read!!!
Kirk/McCoy
inell's Two Men and a Motorbike series is very well known and is an amazing Kirk/McCoy epic that - well, I wouldn't necessarily say it changed my life - but it's awesome and a great insight into their friendship and its building into a relationship. Very inspiring.
Bonus rec: Hottest Kirk/McCoy fic EVER
Kirk/Spock
Home is an amazing fic that totally sold me on Kirk/Spock (before that, Two Men and a Motorbike had me almost convinced that Kirk/McCoy would be one and only OTP). I loved this fic beyond words. While I was reading it, I couldn't think about anything else. Again, I'm not sure I would say that it changed my life, but at the time that I was reading it, it almost felt like that.
WARNING about this fic - it is an UNFINISHED WIP. Don't even get me started on how sad I am about this. It's 33 Chapters long, and still a great read, but definitely left me wanting closure and being somewhat..perturbed..at the author. I know, you should write for yourself and screw what other people think. But, in this case, I can't really help but feel disappointed.
The crew of the Enterprise
In Which the Crew of the Enterprise Plays I've Never
I cannot say enough about this fic, besides that it is possibly the hardest I've ever laughed while reading a fic and that it informed a theme that you may notice appearing in my fics, namely that the crew is an incestuous, sex-crazed, alcoholic bunch who dedicate approximately 10% of their time to, you know, space exploration, and 90% to getting drunk and getting in each other's pants. (See Space: No Herpes).
My next fic is definitely along those lines....maybe I should go work on it while I'm inspired...
