Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you predicted?
I knew I’d write less than last year, but I still ended up writing a lot less than I’d wanted/hoped. Only 68k! (Although as![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
littleboycalico helpfully pointed out, “but in that 68k is such quality butt sex” – aww, thanks, bb!) Granted, last year I was kind of insane (75 fic posts and 313k words, wtf), and I can very much pinpoint the reasons why I haven’t written as much this year – namely, more responsibility at work, buying a house, and a purposeful effort to spend my time at home – well, I wouldn’t say productively, but…let’s call it being mutually unproductive with my husband, instead of focused so intently on the internet. All this in addition to completely losing the ability to focus on any one thing for any length of time, including writing. At some point I made it my goal to post at least one fic every month, and I did - so at least there’s that!
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
Well, I’d already been planning to write my first Urbine at some point, so that wasn’t too big a surprise. Let’s go with Zach/Spock, ha ha!
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
I don’t know about risks, but I definitely had a lot of firsts this year, not only with pairings, but also things like writing in the present tense – I think I chose well on which stories ask to be told in present tense – and writing het – omg, so hard, never again.
My best story of this year: Merry Bachelors
My favorite story of this year: I’ll go with a three-way tie: Merry Bachelors, Smoke ‘Em if You Got ‘Em, and For Chris, Tonight
Story of mine most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: feel so much and feel nothing at all (Although I completely understand!)
Most fun story to write: Fic is Life, because it has everything that I want in a fic. And in life.
Story with the single sexiest moment: Not sure about “moment” but I’m going to go with Smoke ‘Em if You Got ‘Em for sexiest story.
Most “Holy crap, that’s wrong, even for you” story: Clingy, because unresolved Pinto angst is always wrong.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: For Chris, Tonight
Hardest story to write: THEY WERE ALL HARD! Honestly though, with very few exceptions, I really struggled with aspects of all of my fics this year, whether it was just getting words onto the page, or trying to make it sound like what was in my head, or editing, or phrasing, or trying to be funny/sexy/profound, etc etc. The hardest one to write has been, of course, the one that’s not finished – the help_queensland fic that I’ve been writing off and on literally all year, which I am still writing and which will finished by the end of January, goddammit!
Favorite OC: Bex
Biggest Disappointment: Everything I didn’t get to write this year. Feeling like I occasionally sacrificed quality just to get things posted (though I’m hopeful that this is more obvious to me than it is to readers…)
Biggest Surprise: How cathartic it was to pour my house-hunting stress into writing Clingy (Aslittleboycalico commented, “You know that deep down I love everything you write, but god help me if you don’t find a house soon.”) I was also surprised and gratified by the reactions to Merry Bachelors, For Chris, Tonight, and Buddy.
Most Unintentionally Telling Story: feel so much and feel nothing at all – It’s not identical to my experiences, but at the same time it’s pulled straight from my life - and I’m sure this comes as a huge surprise to no one.
Story I haven’t written yet, but intend to: ALL OF THE STORIES.
Thoughts on 2012:
This coming year, I’m hoping to do fewer exchanges/challenges so that I can focus on the stuff I want to write. I want to finish up a few WIPs/series, and I want to get back to my roots a little (AKA Pinto AUs, old-school “original flavor” Pinto, and Star Trek – and yes, these are what I consider "my roots" ;-), and I’ll probably write some other weird stuff that’s in my brain that people may or may not like.
But most importantly, lots and lots (and lots) of buttsex.
